Casimir Ferrer

2023

This is a story of encounters, shared passions, and a friendship that has blossomed over time. Casimir Ferrer, an internationally renowned painter and sculptor originally from the Tarn, was born on the banks of the River Tarn on 14 February. As for me, I was born on 13 February. Our paths crossed, despite the generation that separates us, thanks to our family roots forged in the world of metalworking. Our fathers and grandfathers were blacksmiths.

Accustomed to working with wood to craft the handles of my knives, I was fortunate enough to rediscover a riot of colour in a material made from recycled bottles – a material that reminded me of Casimir Ferrer’s dynamic artistic work. This encounter marked the beginning of a unique artistic collaboration. Together, we have brought to life fifty exceptional knives, each adorned with a unique lithograph by Casimir on its box. This collection is an intimate and limited edition, comprising just fifty numbered and dated pieces. This collaboration has a deeply altruistic aim: to raise funds to support the charity ‘1000 étoiles pour l’enfance’, chaired by Casimir Ferrer, and its dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly on behalf of sick children.

Opening of the Carla’s Unusual Gardens: an exceptional event

On 3 and 4 June 2023, the official opening of the Jardins Insolites du Carla took place in aid of the charity 1000 étoiles pour l’enfance, led by Casimir Ferrer. This exceptional event was sponsored by astronaut Patrick Baudry, adding a special touch to the occasion. The Carla Church hosted an inspiring talk on Saturday, where you had the chance to find out more about the charity and its commitment to sick children.

Casimir Ferrer: an artist at the crossroads of painting and sculpture

Casimir Ferrer, born on 14 February 1946 in Trébas, is a French painter and sculptor of international renown. He is recognised as the pioneer of the artistic movement known as Concretism, which combines painting and sculpture in a unique way.

Following a remarkable start to his career in Europe, Casimir Ferrer went on to make his mark in the United States and Canada in the late 1980s, thereby expanding his artistic influence. His success has continued to grow, and he has produced numerous works commissioned by public institutions. In the 1990s, he created mixed-media works combining painting and sculpture, an artistic movement that the art critic André-Charles Rousseau termed ‘concretism’.

The artistic collaboration between Casimir Ferrer and myself has given rise to a collection of unique knives, imbued with meaning and emotion. Every knife bears Casimir’s artistic touch and reflects the authenticity of my work as a cutler.

The opening of the Jardins Insolites du Carla was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate art, creativity and generosity. I am proud to have contributed to this event by raising funds for the charity ‘1000 étoiles pour l’enfance’.
